What an A2 English test checks

A2 is the second level of English, after A1. In A2 lessons you learn to talk about daily life, plans and past events, and to use English in shops and around town. This short written test checks grammar and vocabulary from those lessons through sentences, with answers and explanations.

The test covers the nine A2 units of the course. The units are daily life, mine and yours, how much, comparing, past stories, plans, experiences, rules and advice, and around town. The grammar includes adverbs of manner, possessive and reflexive pronouns, much and many, comparatives, too and enough, the past continuous, used to, the future with going to and will, the first conditional, the present perfect, must, have to and should, and connectors such as so, because and but. The questions are grouped by format, not by unit, and some of them use words from the vocabulary pages, such as weather, transport, health and places in town.

Take the test after the A2 units, or before them, to see what you know. A pass means you answered at least 80% of these questions correctly. If you do not pass, your results show units to study again. This is practice, not an official exam: there is no certificate, and you can take it again at any time.
