There Is There Are Game: rules and examples
There is and there are introduce the existence or presence of something. Match is with one thing or an uncountable noun, and are with plural things. Then practise negatives, questions and extended forms such as there was and there has been.

One or many: there is and there are
There is introduces one countable thing or an uncountable noun. There are introduces two or more countable things.
There is a cat on the sofa.
One cat takes is.There are two cats on the sofa.
Two cats take are.There is some water in the glass.
Water is uncountable.

Negatives with no and any
Use there is not or there are not for negatives. No can follow the verb; any commonly follows not in negatives.
There is no milk left.
Milk is uncountable.There aren't any chairs.

Questions: Is there? Are there?
Move is or are before there. The following noun still decides which form you need.
Is there a bank nearby?

Lists and quantifiers
With a list, the verb commonly agrees with the first noun. A little goes with uncountable nouns; a few goes with plurals.
There is a pen and two notebooks.

Past, future and present perfect
Use there was/were for the past, there will be for the future, and there has/have been for a period up to now. After a modal, use the base form be.
There were three delays yesterday.
