Usa many con sustantivos contables en plural y much con sustantivos incontables. Los usamos en preguntas y negativas: How many books? We haven't got much time. En las afirmativas, usa a lot of.
- Many:
- Many va con sustantivos contables en plural: many books, many friends. Se usa en preguntas y negativas: Have you got many friends? I haven't got many books.
- Much:
- Much va con sustantivos incontables: much money, much time. Se usa en preguntas y negativas: Is there much milk? We haven't got much time.
- A lot of:
- A lot of va con los dos tipos. Es la opción normal en las oraciones afirmativas: We've got a lot of books. She drinks a lot of water.
- How much / how many:
- Para preguntar la cantidad, usa how many + sustantivo en plural: How many eggs? Usa how much + sustantivo incontable: How much milk? How much también sirve para los precios: How much is this bag?
- A few y a little:
- A few significa «unos pocos», con sustantivos contables en plural: a few friends. A little significa «un poco», con sustantivos incontables: a little sugar.

Usamos much, many y a lot of para hablar de cantidades. La palabra que elijas depende del sustantivo. Many va con sustantivos contables en plural: many books, many friends, many eggs. Much va con sustantivos incontables: much money, much time, much milk.
Usamos much y many sobre todo en preguntas y en oraciones negativas: Have you got many friends? I haven't got many friends. Is there much milk? There isn't much milk. En las oraciones afirmativas solemos decir a lot of: I've got a lot of friends. There is a lot of milk. A lot of va con sustantivos contables e incontables.
Para preguntar la cantidad, usa how many con sustantivos contables en plural y how much con sustantivos incontables: How many eggs do you want? How much milk do you want? También usamos how much para preguntar el precio: How much is this bag?
Para cantidades pequeñas, usa a few con sustantivos contables y a little con sustantivos incontables: I've got a few friends here. I want a little sugar. No los mezcles: a few sugar y a little friends no son correctos.
